WYN317 presents Belin at SCOPE Art Fair 2019 | Event

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

Northern cold-fronts bring snow birds, and with them the weight of the entire art world, leaving little for the locals. Through all the craziness, one local art gallery fly's high with the best.

A deep look into the work of event photographer Rodrigo Gaya during Art Basel Miami 2019. On assignment for Wyn317 Gallery at their opening of Belin at Scope Art Fair.

Miami Beach, 12.3.19 - WYN317 Art Gallery in Miami hosted Spanish painter Belin at SCOPE Art Fair during Miami Art Week in December 2019.

For sisters Danelle Pino & Michelle Pino, co-founders of WYN317 Gallery, working with world-renown artist Belin was nothing new. The year before, Belin painted one of his classic murals to help inaugurate WYN317's new location in Miami.

Yet, the bright lights of a major art fair were new for this local Miami art gallery. A chance to rub elbows with world-renown galleries and artists, cannot be missed.

But let's start at the beginning...

Since their inception in 2014, I've been working with WYN317 gallery. Covering many of their shows since they day they opened.

In 2018 I had the privilege of photographing how their new space transformed its white walls to the dynamic murals now on display. Belin was one of the headline artists, including Michael B, Sheep Chen, Does, Vesod, Key Detail, Cranio, Ivan Roque, & more.

Every December, on the sandy, yet sinking shores of Miami Beach, northern birds for the warm winters, bringing the art world with it, usually leaving little space for local galleries to show in the major fairs.

Having had a successful inaugural year, the Pino sisters were ready for the next step, SCOPE.

The assignment from the gallery was simple in premise, but challenging in practice.

Opening day of any art fair is hectic, this day was no different. Making sure my Fujifilm gear was organized and ready, I arrived about an hr prior to the scheduled time to start shooting the moment I walk through the entrance.

All the year's planning goes into this first day. From making sure the artwork is hung level, the exhibition space cleaned, to getting the VIP guest list in order. Two hours goes by quickly, so there's always something to shoot, no time to waste.

Turning in more selects than they expected is always the goal. Luckily, everything went to plan this week for the gallery and they were able to almost sell out. A great first show for WYN317 the now world-renown local gallery.
