DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

CDMX en ByN

CDMX
2016-2020

CDMX en Blanco y Negro is a street documentary series shot in black and white across Mexico City's historic center and surrounding neighborhoods between 2016 and 2020. The work strips the city down to its essential contrasts — light and shadow, movement and stillness, the ancient and the contemporary coexisting on the same block.

Mexico City's Centro Histórico — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most densely layered urban environments in the Americas — serves as the primary setting. This series is part of Rodrigo Gaya Villar's long-form documentary body of work on Mexican identity and urban life, alongside Vochos Unidos, Ayotzinapa 43, Pride CDMX, and the 2017 Mexico City earthquake coverage.
